Welcome to GIST College!!
Gwangju institute of Science and Technology (GIST) was established in 1993 as a graduate school and developed into world-class research oriented university. The GIST College, undergraduate school, was opened in 2010 to provied college education required in the 21st century. Thanks to unerring pursuit of excellence, The GIST undergraduate school has developed outstanding education programs in science and engineering disciplines as well as in humanities and arts. 2014, the GIST College proudly conferred bachelor’s degrees to its first group of graduating students.
The goal of the GIST undergraduate school is to foster elite scientists and engineers with strong interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. With full support from the government, tuition and living expenses are provided for all students. Along with education in natural science and engineering, we aim for a curriculum that develops into liberal arts and integrated science studies. Recently, by unifying the undergraduate program and graduate school, we now conduct more advanced education by adding the strengths of the research-oriented graduate school to the undergraduate course.
The first year students are given a chance to explore the major while concentrating on liberal arts and basic science education without choosing a major. The second to fourth year curriculum is designed so that students can concentrate on major, minor and double majors, humanities and social sciences as well as integrated studies. In particular, 'Liberal arts education for scientists and engineers', was derived from the educational philosophy to nurture global science and technology talents with creativity, cooperation and communication skills. In addition, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and software education are conducted to nurture talents who will lead the era of the 4th industrial revolution.
In order to develop competencies as future international leaders, we are operating seasonal courses and training programs in University of Cambridge, Caltech, University of California at Berkeley, Boston University and Israel Technion University. Furthermore, through the G-SURF(GIST-Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) program, where students can gain research experience at the world-class graduate level, students can develop creative research skills.
GIST is a cradle of talented people who will lead science and technology not only in Korea but also in the world. Our students have what it takes to become such leaders. They will grow up with integrity, preciseness and sincere heart at GIST. We promise that our education will bear great fruit.
