G-SURF

What is G-SURF?

G-SURF is a summer research program which is benchmarked against Caltech's SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship). GIST College provides opportunities for undergraduate students to be involved in GIST graduate laboratories and conduct research under the supervision of an advising professor who is in charge of the research project for 8 weeks during summer vacation.

What is the purpose of G-SURF?

  • Undergraduate students have opportunities to practice authentic research before completing their college programs.
  • Students are able to nurture their creativity and problem solving skills by applying their classroom knowledge of scientific theories to actual research projects
  • Students develop the communicative and collaborative skills which are required for researchers through practical laboratory workexperience with mentoring from their advisors

When is it?

It starts on June and ends on August. (8 weeks)

What are the benefits?

Not only do students get opportunities to conduct research in more advanced laboratories, but also they may be able to continually conduct research with the approval of the advisor. Also, students get a stipend of 600,000 KRW for the 8 week period.

Caltech SURF

What is Caltech SURF?

Caltech SURF is an exchange program between GIST College and Caltech. 2 students from GIST College are selected to visit Caltech and have an opportunity to be involved in re- search under the supervision of Caltech professors for 10 weeks in summer.

When is it?

It starts on June and ends on August (10 weeks)

How do I pay for the program?

Each selected student will receive a 6,000 USD scholarship from GIST College to pay for tuition, flight tickets, dormitory fees, meals, insurance, visa, etc.

What are the qualifications to apply for the program?

  • Sufficient English proficiency to be able to conduct a research with a Caltech professor and write and present a report in English on the outcome at the end of the program
  • Sufficient scientific knowledge to conduct research in a laboratory with other Caltech students.
  • Have declared a concentration.
