Paper Spray Ionization

Antibiotic residues in animal originated food present a potential health risks to consumers such as antibiotic resistance, allergy and toxicity. Therefore, the regulation for the maximum residue limit is established globally. Currently, high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer is the most common quantitative method for antibiotics in food. The antimicrobial inhibition test and ELISA are also used as screening or semi quantitative one. However, these methods required extensive sample preparation, time consumption and high cost. Our project aims to develop a high-throughput and low-cost mass spectrometric method to analyze food antibiotic residues and their metabolites.
