Protein Structure-Function Laboratory

Knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of a given protein is an essential prerequisite for understanding of the molecular basis of catalytic and functional mechanisms of various systems.

Using x-ray crystallography in connection with electron microscopy, cryo-tomography, and computer modeling, our lab is focusing on the establishing the macromolecular architectures of the target protein-protein network systems. For this purpose, we are trying to integrate with the structural information with the biochemical and biological data, either collected in our laboratory or available through collaboration with specialists in the field. The structure information can be helpful to reveal the structure-function relationship, design enzyme inhibitors as lead compounds, and discover useful biocatalysts for industrial purposes.

Research Fields

  • Systems biology for calcium homeostasis and cardiac hypertrophy
  • Three dimensional imaging using X-ray/EM/Tomography for the protein systems involved in the cell adhesion and migration
  • Structural biology for the ATP dependent protein degradation systems
  • Structural studies on the proteins involved in the learning and memory
